Basically, a polydactyl Maine Coon is a pedigreed Maine Coon with extra toes!
Regular cats have five toes on each front foot and four on each back but polydactyls -“polys” for short- are digitally enhanced. They can have up to eight digits (although six are more common). One of the most interesting things about these cats is that they can be polydactyl on only one foot or up to all four (4 wheel drive!). AND there are a number of different foot formations. Pattyfoot (aka Snowshoe) polys have feet that simply look larger than normal (until you count toes!) but mitten kittens have “thumbs”, and beware, as some know well how to use them!
Besides having spare toes, polydactyl MC’s are just like any other Maine Coon -in general- large, friendly cats with social personalities.
