Status in different cat registries
The New Zeeland Cat Fancy (NZCF)
The New Zeeland Cat Fancy (NZCF) were the first to accept polydactyl Maine Coons in the show hall. They may compete for Championship status along with the regular pawed Maine Coon cats since 2008.
The International Cat Association (TICA)
In TICA, a worldwide cat organization, polydactyl Maine Coons were shown in the New Traits Class since 2005. After applying for acceptance to full Championship status several times the Maine Coon Polydactyl, as part of the Maine Coon breed group (MC/MCP), was accepted into Championship beginning May 1, 2015.
The Cat Fanciers Federation (CFF)
In CFF the Maine Coon Cat Poly, as part of the Maine Coon breed group, were able to be shown in Championship since May 1, 2015 as well.
The Cat Fanciers Association (CFA)
In CFA polydactyl Maine Coons are shown as neuters in the household pet category.
In Europe a different cat organization called FIFé has unfortunately banned the polys from breeding and showing since 2014…even though for many years they gave out pedigrees to polydactyl Maine Coons and it was tolerated to show them as well but not for competition.
At this moment there are several other registries working on accepting MC Polys into Championship status.
